The children's play area at Queen's Park is currently boarded up due to the council's lack of funds to invest in new play equipment. Originally funded with support from the QUEEN'S PARK IMPROVEMENT & PROTECTION SOCIETY (QPIPS) and former councillors, myself (Mark Anderson) and Cheryl Johnson, it is disheartening to see this vital resource for local children deteriorate over the past two years.
QPIPS has decided to take action. We are committing the profits from this year's Picnic in the Park to help with the repairs and we are hoping to secure funding from local businesses as well as applying for grants to help raise the funds, and we need your help to achieve this goal. The more we can raise the more we can show the council how important this play ground is to the local area and children.
Please make a donation however small to our
Gofundme page The more we can raise the more the council will realise the difference it makes for our local children and the importance to our community. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant impact. Thank you for contributing to this cause that means so much to me.
Many parents have expressed their concerns, including one who said “My young boys and I have been frequent visitors to the park and café; we insist on supporting local businesses. This is in fact our favourite park out of the various we have visited - the wooden design and landscape is indeed unique. Unfortunately, we have taken our visits elsewhere as the structure is out of use. Luckily, we have use of a car, but I know that other local families are not in this position."
